The Antigonish 2020 Foresight Committee has been working since last September’s Community Conference to organize and then prioritize all of the material gathered before, during and since the event.

In order to be able to both organize and then to begin to work constructively with all of this diverse material, we challenged the 2020 committee to identify 12 priorities which could include both values and actions.

We chose 12 priorities in order to identify the 3 top issues in each of 4 groups. Each group represents one of the “Four Pillars” of the Integrated Community Sustainability Plan model that is being used by communities all over Canada as a reference to address sustainable planning. These pillars are:

• Economy
• Environment
• Social
• Culture

These 12 priorities set a vision for our community by the year 2020. They are general in nature and reflect the values and principles of the Antigonish area as determined during the Antigonish 2020 Foresight process. They are goals to strive for, and while we may not achieve them all by 2020, we will be on a pathway to reaching those goals and moving forward into the future.

We are now asking you to consider these 12 priorities and let us know if we are on the right track. We are also seeking your suggestions for specific actions that can be taken to move these priorities along.

The intent is to present a final version of the 12 priorities at a community conference this fall (2007).

This document is a work in progress and is being circulated throughout the community during the months of June, July and August for comment and suggestions.
